Hoops for Hope

We had a great time last night at Hoops for Hope. Hoops for Hope was a basketball game sponsored by the WEPAC Alliance, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing resources and education to encourage local women (in 5 small communities served by 2 rural hospital) to take active responsibility for their health.

The WEPAC Alliance partnered with the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers and founded by Coach Kay Yow, former women's basketball coach at North Carolina State University, to host its first annual WEPAC Hoops for Hope event.

10% of all money raised will go to the Kay Yow Fund. The remaining 90% will go to the WEPAC Alliance .

Being at the game gave us a little of the same feeling of being in Bramlage Coliseum. After all, the KSU band and cheerleaders (in the picture above) were there, as well as some of our favorite KSU players, Marlies Gipson and Shalee Lehning.

Tip-off for the game! Notice everyone wearing pink? Everyone got a pink or white T-shirt with their ticket to the game.

Above is a picture of the black team's coach (in the the pink jacket), Jackie Stiles, and to her left is Shalee Lehning. Shalee didn't play because of the shoulder surgery she had at the end of the WNBA season this year. Kneeling in front of them, is the other coach for the black team, Cynthia Cooper! It was very cool to see all these amazing women basketball players together!

Marlies was kind enough to take a quick picture with us before the start of the game!

Maiya the cheerleader with pink pom poms they handed out to us during the game.

Mason the trombone player, jamming with the KSU band! He also got out his drumsticks to help the band!

Mason posed for a picture with all of our goods from the evening! My name was chose in the raffle for the autographed basketball that Mason is holding. The t-shirt hanging on the chair is one that the cheerleaders threw into the crowd and Matt caught. There's a small white ball sitting on the pink pom poms that the couple sitting to me caught, then they handed it to Mason. He was so surprised and thankful! We also brought home a program and lots of pink pom poms!
