Basketball? Yes, please!
The kids got to go to Coach Hamilton's basketball camp at the Dodge City High School. Their class was Tuesday through Friday this week from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. They both LOVED it and wished it didn't have to end. They are already making plans for next year's camp. ;)
The kids got camp t-shirts and the first 100 to sign up got these green and white basketballs! Mason and Maiya got autographs of the DCHS coaches and the high school players and thought that was pretty cool.
They did a lot of work on all the basics: dribbling, passing, defense and shooting. Maiya liked the dribbling challenges; Mason not so much! He really just wanted to shoot, and shoot, and shoot some more.
Mason's "team" for the week, the Celtics, sitting on the floor listening to Coach Hamilton's instructions.
Maiya with her team, the Lakers. She was excited there was a girl smaller than her! (The girl to Maiya's right, in the yellow shirt.)
Their favorite game was called "Trees." Some of the kids wore orange jerseys and were "it". They had to dribble the ball and tag others who were dribbling from sideline to sideline. If you were tagged, then you had to freeze where you were, place your ball between your feet and stick your arms out like a tree. You can't move, but you can tag those who are not "it" if they get close enough. It was organized chaos and that's what they loved!
I tried to get a pic of both kids on the final day. Mason just wouldn't cooperate...Maiya looks like she's thinking, "Really, Mason??"
