KSU Beef Cattle Research Center

We visited daddy at work on Saturday. Mason LOVES to ride on all the equipment.

The building on the left is the feed mill. The smaller building on the right houses the offices and a meeting room.

Here's daddy at his desk.

The purple feed truck at work in the yard.

Heifer in an indivual metabolism pen.

A view of the feedyard looking north off Marlatt Avenue. K-State is home one of the largest research feedlots in the nation. With 240 pens, holding up to 25 animals, we have the same operations as a 20,000 head feedlot. The record keeping for research adds to daily tasks. We employ 15-20 undergraduates during the school year and a few less in the summer. Professor Drouillard, the faculty feedlot head, supports 10 Master's and PhD students in ruminant nutrition. The students analyze new feed ingredients in rations along with optimizing current feedlot rations. Feed additives and pharmaceuticals are sometimes other avenues for research. Matt's job oversees the student workers and daily operations of the feedlot along with coordinating the research projects for the graduate students.
