KSU Insect Zoo

Today we visited the KSU Gardens and Insect Zoo. What a great place! The kids were a little nervous around all the bugs, and I think they will enjoy this even more when they are a little older.
The entrance of the insect zoo is adorned with large metal leaf cutter ants.

There were many displays of the different insects of Kansas, similar to this one. It's amazing to see these collections, mostly donated by KSU professors.

This was one of our favorite displays. These are leaf cutter ants, crawling through a tube in the zoo. They have a glassed cage, that looks like an aviary, where they collect their leaves. They carry the leaves through this tube to their home in a clear plastic tub. We couldn't see them in the tub, but it was fun to watch them get their leaves then carry them as they traveled through the tube.

I think this was Mason's favorite! It is a remote controlled tarantula. He had a great time making it crawl around. He never would touch it, however.

Here, Maiya is looking through a window at some fish in the museum's small pond.
