Trip to KC

We took a trip to KC this weekend to visit a friend who had surgery at KU Med, then we spent the rest of the day playing. First we went to Oak Park mall to eat at the Rainforest Cafe.

`

Mason posed by the elephant.

And a ride on the carousel at the mall!

Next we were off for Deanna Rose's Children's Farmstead. What a great place!

I took this from the website's History section:
"With the Kansas family farm slowly disappearing, the 12-acre "Children's Farmstead" was established in 1978 and re-named in 1985 to honor the first Overland Park Police Officer killed in the line of duty.
Deanna Rose’s legacy is to preserve the farm legacy so children in the city can learn facts of life from the charm of the farm. Children treasure such memories as gathering eggs, the sweet smell of hay, and learning first hand where milk comes from."
We spent almost three hours enjoying this fun place. We fed lots of animals and first were the goats. Most of them were quite a bit bigger than Maiya. She was scared (even though she will tell you otherwise!). The goats were even putting their front legs on me and pushing me and Mason around. You would think they weren't being fed all day!

The Homestead featured many antiques and Mason enjoyed pumping water, almost as much as dad did!

Mason had to get a closer look. "Where did it go?", he asked?

They even had pedal tractors to ride!

And tepees to visit.

The dairy barn had a saddle Maiya wanted to try out. They had several baby calves in pens, and one that was born just that morning.

Mason enjoyed climbing on all the antique machinery. He was very disappointed when it wasn't working, though!

Our first pony rides! Mason hopped right on and took it all in stride.

Maiya wasn't so sure. It took a little coaxing to get her on. Once she was on the saddle, she had the biggest grin on her face, and she did great! I think this was her favorite part of the day.

While I was trying to get Maiya on the pony, dad and Mason went to the fishing pond.

You could rent a simple cane pole and get a small bucket of worms. It is catch and release. We didn't have much luck, but....

Kimberly did!!!

Mason and Maiya got to see Kimberly's BIG fish up close. Mason quickly touched it, but Maiya wouldn't.

A covered wagon and campsite set up along the walking trail.

Feeding the ducks at the fishing pond.

Another "broken" piece of equipment. "Papa has to fix it," Mason said.

A beautiful butterfly!
