Mason has changed SO much this past year. He grew 4 inchest taller and gained about 19 pounds! He looks like a very different child!
 |
| "Mom! Can I pleeease have ice cream for breakfast? It's my biiiirthday!!" |
|
For dinner on his birthday, he chose lasagna and garlic bread
and...Zebra cakes.
We had a small party at our house. Mason invited three friends from school: Noah Illk, Michael Kirk and Ryan Renner. The boys came over in the later part of the afternoon. The plan was to have pizza then the family would come over for gifts and cake and ice cream. We just started cooking the pizzas and the tornado sirens sounded! I loaded everyone up and drove to our church. We got all the kids in the basement and others from the community started in. The tornado warning was in effect for about an hour. During that time, we had a very crazy hail storm. More hail then I have ever seen in my life! The white hail was so thick, it looked like it had snowed.
When we were given the "all clear" signal, the kids couldn't resist playing in the hail that covered the ground. They had so much fun sliding in it! They spent nearly 30 minutes jumping on the trampoline with the balls of ice. The temperature dropped to 56 degrees but the kids took off their shoes and laughed and played on the freezing cold trampoline. Unfortunately, I did not get any pictures but I do have a video of the crazy day!
After the kids dried off, we had pizza, presents and cake with ice cream.
Mason's presents included an Angry Birds Jenga game, a Darth Vader Angry Bird Pig, several pairs of shorts and shirts, nearly $100 cash, a baseball helmet and a SKLZ Hit-A-Way Portable Training System: a baseball hitting trainer.
Mason still spends most of his time playing basketball. We finally got rid of the Little Tykes basketball goal in the kitchen. Mason shoots at a small goal hanging off Maiya's bedroom door in the hallway. Of course, he wants Maiya's door to always be closed so he can shoot. Maiya then gets upset because she wants it open and it's a continual struggle. Thankfully, when the weather is nice, Mason can retreat to his goal above the trampoline. He asks daily, or twice a day, if he can play the Wii. When he gets Wii time, he plays Wii Resort Basketball or Mario Kart. Occasionally he will play Just Dance which is always entertaining.
Mason loves pizza, and really anything dairy... or sweet. He eats a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese sticks, cheese quesadillas and cheese pizza. His favorite sweet treat is chocolate chip cookie dough.
He has really taken off with reading this year. Sometimes it's a struggle to get him to read, but he never misses the chance to have Daddy read the Big Picture Story Bible to him. He practically has it memorized, but he never gets tired of it.
He prefers to wear as little clothes as possible and most of the time he's wearing basketball shorts and...that's all. Everyday after school, he asks 2 things: 1) Can _____________ (insert any of his friends' names) come over and play? 2) Can we go to the Corner Store and get a treat? Much to his dismay, Mom usually has alternative plans (i.e. homework and chores).
He isn't too interested in Daddy's cows, but he does love going to the farm and riding the 4-wheeler. Papa Greg and Grandma Le Ann aren't so excited when Mason is on the 4-wheeler. Grandma got after him for doing 'doughnuts' in their driveway and Papa didn't care for Mason putting a dent in the new shed. Mason did help Daddy this spring with building fence. Mason drove the 4-wheeler loaded with T-posts while Matt put them in the ground. Matt bought the kids a .22-rifle this year and have had several hours of target practice.
Mason loves to cuddle and he wants hugs and kisses from Daddy especially when Daddy leaves to go to work. We had several discussions this year over appropriate kissing and hugging. Mason wanted to share his affection with some of his classmates...in line...at school. The boys in his class don't appreciate his hugs and kisses like Daddy does!!
Mason keeps us on our toes and provides lots of laughs! We LOVE him and all his crazy quirks!
